Official Merit Determination & Tie-Breaker Policy

  • Screening Nature of Tier-I: Tier-I scores serve solely to shortlist candidates for Tier-II. These marks are not added to the final merit score.
  • Final Merit Ranking: Selection merit is determined exclusively by aggregate marks scored in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II.
  • Compulsory Qualifying Threshold: Candidates must qualify Section-III (Computer Knowledge) and Section-IV (Skill/Typing Test). Failure in either module disqualifies the candidate.
  • Tie-Breaking Order: When two or more candidates obtain equal aggregate marks in Tier-II, ties are resolved sequentially by:
    1. Higher marks scored in Section-I of Tier-II Examination.
    2. Date of birth, with older candidates ranked higher.
    3. Alphabetical order of the candidate’s name.
  • Document Verification (DV): Appointing ministries conduct certificate scrutiny after the Commission releases final allocation lists.

Admission Certificate & Answer Key Objection Process

  • Online Admission Certificates: Accepted candidates download Admission Certificates online from official regional SSC websites.
  • Eligibility Verification: The Commission does not check eligibility certificates during written tests. User departments inspect all original records during Document Verification.
  • Tentative Answer Key: SSC uploads tentative answer keys online after the examination. Candidates can challenge any question within the specified window.
  • Challenge Fee: Candidates must pay ₹50 per question challenge (non-refundable). Subject experts examine objections before compiling final results.

Frequently Asked Questions – SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Verified answers based on Scheme of Examination pages 16–24 of the official SSC notice

Q1. Does the Tier-I score count towards final merit rankings?+

No. Tier-I serves exclusively as a qualifying screening test. Consequently, final selection relies entirely on marks scored in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II.

Q2. Can candidates switch between subjects during Tier-I?+

No. Each subject features an independent 15-minute sectional timer. Therefore, candidates cannot navigate to another section until its timer concludes.

Q3. What happens if a candidate fails the Computer Knowledge Test?+

Qualifying the Computer Knowledge Test is compulsory. Hence, failing Section-III leads to overall disqualification, regardless of high marks in other sections.

Q4. Is the Tier-II Skill Test conducted on a separate day?+

No. SSC conducts both sessions on the same single day. Specifically, Session-I covers written modules and Session-II administers the typing test.

Q5. Which font is mandatory for Hindi typing in SSC CHSL?+

Candidates choosing Hindi medium must type strictly in Mangal Font. As a result, typing in any other font results in disqualification.

Q6. Can candidates change their typing language choice later?+

No. The typing language chosen in the application form is strictly final. Furthermore, the Commission accepts no change requests subsequently.

Q7. Is there negative marking for unattempted questions?+

No. Unanswered questions carry zero penalty. Negative marking applies strictly to incorrect responses.

Q8. How does SSC resolve ties in Tier-II marks?+

SSC resolves ties sequentially using Section-I marks, followed by older date of birth, and finally alphabetical order of candidate names.

Q9. How can candidates challenge tentative answer keys?+

Candidates can file online objections on the official portal by paying a non-refundable fee of ₹50 per question.

Q10. Who conducts the Document Verification stage?+

Document verification is carried out directly by the respective User Departments and Ministries after final allocation results are declared.

Preparation Strategy Note:

Candidates should focus on speed drills to manage Tier-I sectional timers effectively. In addition, allocate dedicated daily practice to computer literacy and typing speed to secure qualifying marks in Tier-II.
